Maple Hill Church

I've been reviewing the archives, and I came across this image of the Maple Hill Church from Fall 2009. I don't remember doing anything different, but it has an unusual "flat" look: colors, texture, even the sky. Maple Hill Church Grand Marais, Minnesota USA Fall 2009

October Storm

The Grand Marais Breakwall, well on its way to disappearing under the waves.

Storms like this don't come along very often.  They can be destructive, but their power is awesome.

Huge splash patters are dramatic against the drab background of late autumn.
Some of our favorite objects disappear from view momentarily.

Foreground: The Lighthouse; Background: One Powerful Wave.

In the dim light, color disappeared, but that only added to the drama of the storm!

Spirit Little Cedar Tree

Last March, our friend Travis invited three other photographers to go to his neighborhood at Grand Portage for a photo shoot. We went to the Spirit Little Cedar Tree before sunrise and captured some great photos. It was cold and sunny, and I really did freeze my fingers that day.

Lingering Leaves

Most of the leaves now lie on the forest floor. However, the non-native French cherry trees in our yard are clinging to their few remaining leaves, adding just a small flash of color right outside our door.

Sunrise at Artists Point

We had a groundbreaking ceremony at Johnson Heritage Post Art Gallery this morning at 7:30. As I drove to town, the sun rose--a big pink ball on the far horizon of Lake Superior. Just as I got to Grand Marais, the sun ducked behind a cloud bank, then started to reappear!

Another Copper Sunset

There were no brilliant oranges, golds, and yellows in tonight's sunset. Just copper!

Gnarly Gnight

At dusk, the sun can distort the colors of the day. Hence, Gnarly Gnight!

Grand Marais Harbor, 11 October

I had a 9:00 a.m. meeting at the Johnson Heritage Post in Grand Marais. I was running on time. When I got to downtown Grand Marais, this was my view of the harbor. I grabbed my camera and tripod from the back seat, snapped this photo, and then went to my meeting.
