March 24~Grand Marais Lighthouse Walk

I had some chores to do in town, but I had some time to take pictures before the stores opened. The ice in the small ponds on the lighthouse walk was quite decorative.

March 20~Ice Pics

Crackle ice along a rock beach on Lake Superior.

At Kadunce, the lake ice had disappeared but the shore ice was interesting.

On the Brule River above the Devil's Kettle, we saw ice shaped like marshmallows floating towards their doom.

March 20~Hikes on the First Day of Spring

It got down to 10F at our house, but not quite so cold along the shore of Lake Superior. Still, there was a build-up of ice along the shore rocks at Kadunce.

The earlier snow melt, combined with the cold temperatures, made for some fantastic sights along the Cascade River.

At C. R. Magney State Park, the lower falls of the Brule River greeted us with a rainbow!

Brule River Canyon

I spotted this cedar tree growing from the canyon wall. It is growing out of the rock and has spread its roots through the rock and down into more rock. This cedar's a survivior!

Ice jams up and the water swirls above the Devil's Kettle.

Brule River~Magney State Park

On March 17, I dutifully put on my green turtleneck and green sweatshirt and drove to Magney State Park.

This crystallized ice has a tiny neighbor

It looks like it is crafted from copper foil

A squirrel had her breakfast of pine seeds, but didn't pick up after herself.
This looks like an abstract painting to me!

Hike to High Falls

Ivy and I motored up to High Falls at Grand Portage State Park this morning. The trail was icy and slippery, but the views of the falls were spectacular. The river is roaring! Well worth the hike.

Adam Beach

I usually only post scenery and nature pictures, but this evening I went to a presentation by actor Adam Beach in Grand Portage. It was a wonderful, inspirational speech. I do not like the label "motivational speaker'" but he really was motivating, uplifting and inspirational.

The evening began with youth drummers from Grand Portage. They filled the community center with their music.

Note his intensity. He really grabbed our attention.

In a lighter moment, Adam Beach invoked Beyonce's "All the Single Ladies."

Adam Beach brought an intense focus to a quiet moment.
